About Us
The Marshall family has lived in Sutton-on-Trent for over two hundred years and by tradition were basket makers. This is reflected in the company crest which symbolises both basket weaving and bee keeping along with the River Trent running through its centre. The Marshalls are well known in the area, in recent times having run a successful motor spares business before the current PCV business and this is why the full title of 'Marshalls of Sutton-on-Trent' is carried by all our vehicles alongside the company crest. Although the bus and coach operation started in 1989, the family connection with the industry goes back much further. Mr Marshall took his PSV test with Gash of Newark in 1969 and drove for them on a part itme basis until 1988 when they were taken over by Lincolnshire RoadCar. At this time B30 was purchased from the Gash fleet and became Marshalls first operational vehicle which was soon joined by DD10, a 1954 Daimler CVG6 which had outlived The Gash company and saw service with Marshalls until it was placed in retirement and sold into preservation. The business is very much family run employing both Mr & Mrs Marshall and their son & daughter, see our 'meet the team' page for more details. We occupy the old farm buildings that were once the basket making premises of the Marshall family although the workshop is a new building commissioned in 1995 and the office is now located in a tastefully converted cow shed. At Marshalls we take a pride in our home village of Sutton-on-Trent, during the updating of the premises we went to considerable expense to 'blend in' with our surroundings. We host the annual Village Festival on the land adjoining our premises and all drivers are instructed to drive around the village with the utmost care and concern for the people who live here. At Marshalls we don't have a single 'motto' or ' mission statement', but if one sentance could be used to sum up our service it could be this: The Bitterness of poor quality remains long after the Sweetness of low price is forgotten! In a nutshell, we never claim to be the cheapest service around, but we do strive to be the best!
